More Than Just Tea: Why I Designed a Teh Tarik Collection to Celebrate Malaysia’s Favourite Drink

More Than Just Tea: Why I Designed a Teh Tarik Collection to Celebrate Malaysia’s Favourite Drink

If you’ve ever been to Malaysia — or even talked to a Malaysian — you’ve probably heard of teh tarik. It's creamy, sweet, and famously "pulled" from cup to cup until it forms a foamy top. But to me, teh tarik is more than just a drink — it’s a symbol of comfort, connection, and home.

The First Sip, The First Memory

Growing up in Malaysia, teh tarik was always there — at roadside stalls, after school, during late-night chats with friends. It wasn’t just about quenching thirst; it was about slowing down, catching up, and enjoying the moment.

Even though I’ve never travelled much within the country, this simple drink connects me to every corner of Malaysia. It represents something shared by people of all backgrounds, every day.

Why I Turned Teh Tarik Into a Design

As I began exploring print-on-demand, I knew I wanted to create products that felt close to my roots. I asked myself: What’s something simple, yet deeply Malaysian?

The answer was in my cup — literally.

So, I started sketching ideas for t-shirts, mugs, and stickers that feature teh tarik in fun, nostalgic ways. From bubbly foam graphics to cute mamak-style illustrations — this collection is my little tribute to the drink I love most.

Bringing Culture to Life Through Merch

My goal isn’t just to sell products. It’s to share a piece of Malaysia with the world — especially for those who miss home, or those curious about our culture.

Whether you’re a local, an expat, or a tourist who fell in love with Malaysian food — I hope these designs bring a smile to your face and remind you of the charm behind every cup of teh tarik.
